Hang Seng Index slips as tech shares diverge and Haidilao tumbles on stake sale talk

9th September 2026 - (Hong Kong) The Hang Seng Index opened 10 points higher at 25,328 before reversing to fall as much as 155 points to 25,161. It was last down 52 points, or 0.2 per cent, at 25,264. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index slipped 25 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 8,371, while the Hang Seng Tech Index eased 28 points, or 0.63 per cent, to 4,426. Turnover reached HK$52 billion.
Large technology counters were mixed. Tencent Holdings edged up 0.1 per cent, while Alibaba Group lost 0.4 per cent. Meituan dropped 1.9 per cent, Xiaomi Corporation fell 1.6 per cent, JD.com declined 1.5 per cent and Kuaishou Technology retreated 2 per cent. Lenovo Group outperformed with a 2.8 per cent gain.
Financials were little changed overall. HSBC Holdings rose 0.4 per cent, AIA Group dipped 0.1 per cent, Ping An Insurance added 0.1 per cent and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing eased 0.1 per cent.
Haidilao International Holding skidded 9.1 per cent amid reports of a major shareholder reducing its stake, making it the morning's weakest blue-chip performer.
